Bloom’s Taxonomy has been used to ensure that learning impacts students’ cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. There are six levels within the cognitive domain of learning:
Critical thinking involves logical thinking and reasoning including skills such as comparison, sequencing, cause/effect, patterning, webbing, analogies, deducting and inductive reasoning, forecasting, planning, hypothesizing, and critiquing.
Pacing of instruction is critical to making sure students are able to develop these higher-order thinking skills. If students do not have time to explore topics fully and deeply, they cannot master the skills they need to be critical thinkers. Pearson’s curriculum is designed to meet California’s rigorous standards while giving students a pathway for becoming critical thinkers.
