FAQs

These frequently asked questions address the most popular concerns of parents. If you have additional questions regarding topics not covered here, please feel free to contact Ecademy.

Q: What if my child is not able to attend live online class sessions?

A: Ecademy offers families and students independent study options that provide all of the same curriculum, technology tools, subscriptions, and cloud productivity options. Home school families who wish to enroll with Ecademy can maintain autonomy while getting the coaching, support, and materials they need. This option is particularly appealing to parents who are new to home schooling and concerned about being able to provide their children with the academic support they need.

Q: How many days is my child required to attend school?

A: Students are required to “attend school” a minimum of 180 days, but students are not required to be at their computers and logged-on for the entire school day. Time spent conducting investigations and other exercises related to Ecademy curriculum counts toward attendance. Students who are traveling may attend on-line via their own laptop computer, may arrange for an Independent Study Agreement prior to the start of their vacation, or may make up the time upon returning from vacation.

Q: Can a family plan vacations whenever they want?

A: For the most part, vacations may be scheduled according to a family’s preference or own schedule. However, Ecademy students are expected to participate in the statewide testing program. Testing windows are set by the California Department of Education and are usually scheduled for students statewide during the first three weeks of May. Also, Ecademy will be closed for national holidays. Please check our calendar for these dates.

Q: Will my child participate in state testing?

A: Yes. Ecademy students are expected to participate in the California State Assessment program. Not only does this program provide information regarding each student’s academic proficiency, it also provides important information regarding the effectiveness of our program.

Q: Does my child get to keep the computer upon graduation or exiting from the school?

A: Through a unique partnership with Computers2Kids who supplies Ecademy with refurbished business machines, Ecademy students may keep computers upon graduation or exiting from the school. New computers supplied to families through vendors like Dell must be returned.

Q: Can my special education child attend Ecademy?

A: Children with Special Needs are welcome to attend Ecademy. Prior to enrolling, Ecademy staff will review the student's IEP and Ecademy California will meet to determine appropriate placement.

Q: Can religious home-school families attend Ecademy?

A: Ecademy is open to students from all walks of life. While education in a specific faith cannot be part of our curriculum, parents are not discouraged from providing religious instruction for their children.

Q: Are there costs associated with Ecademy?
